Getting Here

Check in at our Riad (or boutique hotel) in Marrakesh is very flexible. Check in is usually any time after noon, however if the room is available you can check in as soon as you arrive.  If you do arrive early, feel free to enjoy the hotel and unwind from your travels. You will be welcomed to each hotel with a drink and often times a light Moroccan snack to wet your appetite.  If you would like to drop off your luggage and head in to town, the hotel reception will be very helpful in providing you with a map of Marrakesh. In fact, you. may get a tutorial on how to navigate the map since Marrakesh is made up of windy walkways that take you throughout the town and eventually to the main market other wise known as Medina. We will meet for a welcome dinner so we can all get acquainted as we settle into our first night in Morocco.

For those arriving days before or a night before, arrangements will be made for your stay at the same hotel that the rest of the group will be staying.

Taxi pickups from the airport will be arranged for you by us. Airport pickups and drop offs will happen from and to Marrakesh airport only. We will be retrieving your flight information from the MeReadyToGo form submissions. Please make sure this is completed as soon as your have your flights. The taxi service at arrival and departure is included in your retreat package and thus you do not need to pay the driver for this. You may choose to tip the driver if you so desire but are not expected to.

Airport Pickups

Airport pickups and drop offs will happen from and to Marrakesh (RAK) airport only!

If within your means, we suggest you arrive a day or several day(s) early in Morocco so you can relax and enjoy a smoother transition into the experience.

Airport pickups will happen between 11 a.m and 3 p.m. on December 28th, 2024. Our journey ends on January 6, 2025 (check-out is at 11 a.m.). We will arrange a car to drop you off at Marrakesh (RAK) airport 2.5 hours before your flight.

Currency د. إ (Dirham or DH)

The local currency in Morocco is د. إ or Dirham (DH). Please make sure to have cash Dirham at hand at all times. Most shops or restaurants accept debit/credit card payments yet we highly recommend you to always have a minimal amount cash Dirham at hand, just in case. You may need it in for miscellaneous items or in case of emergency. You exchange your money either in advance in your country of residence, or can do so directly in the airport upon arrival.

Electricity

Electricity in Morocco is 220 Volts. Consider bringing a universal adapter so that you are able to charge your electronic devices. Computers and phones chargers usually have a wide-range wattage so there is no need to worry about your devices getting damaged. A simple universal electricity adapter will usually do the job as the Moroccan plug is standard across Morocco.

WI-FI and Mobile Data

We highly recommend you to have mobile data at all times during the entire trip. This way you can always be up-to-date with last minute schedule changes in our group chat and/or be able to reach out to us in case of need at all times. There are different options for having mobile data on your phone in Italy:

1. Check if your current mobile provider has Moroccan data covered and/or upgrade your plan. Many times mobile providers have week or ten-day packs you can purchase.
2. Buy a SIM card upon arrival in Morocco and install it on your phone. Many phones nowadays have dual-SIM approved.
3. Get an e-sim card. Our preferred company for e-sims is the ‘Airolo’ app. Simply install the app and choose an e-sim for Morocco. The entire process will take just a few minutes and prices range from 15 to 25 dollars depending on the amount of data you choose to purchase.

Click here to purchase an eSim from Airolo.

Wifi will be available at all hotels/riads all over the property but the connection is not always equally as strong in all hotels. Wifi in the Sahara desert may or may not be available. Another reason why mobile data on your phone is a great investment.

Weather

Morocco's winter is mild and somewhat rainy, but December also brings many sunny days ideal for hiking and exploring the cities.

You'll want to dress in relatively warm clothing if you're visiting Fes, where the high temps average at 64°F (and the low is 43°). In the Atlas Mountains, the daily average is 57°F, and you're likely to see some precipitation. In the north, expect rain, too, and moderate temperatures in the fifties in a few of the cities. Marrakech is warmer, with temperatures reaching almost 70° on sunny days. After dark in the desert, you'll need to bundle up.

Also, be aware that some hotels offer central heating, and others do not. Depending on your destination, it's worth asking about ahead of time.

PACKING SUGGESTIONS

Women's Outfits for Moroccan Cities
Let's keep in mind that Morocco is a Muslim country, and it is best to dress more modestly to show respect to the locals.

Sure, you can dress how you like, but expect more staring or unwanted attention! 👀 I recommend following this guideline.

Know that we will visit areas where it is "okay" to wear a T-shirt and jeans.  However, a tunic and linen pants is the style you want to go after not only for style but for comfort.

Do wear:

Layering Clothes are KEY on this trip

Clothes that show little skin
Loose Clothes
Lightweight Clothes
Long Dresses

Do not wear:

Short Shorts
Short Skirts
Tank Tops
V-Necks
Super tight shirts or pants

Scarf
Adding a scarf to your suitcase is a great idea! A scarf can come in handy when visiting the Sahara Desert, protecting you from both the sun and sand, or at the beach, keeping you warm from the chilly breeze. Additionally, when visiting religious sites, they can be used as head coverings. Don't worry if you forgot to pack one, as you can always find a great one at a Souk (a bazaar).
