Ladies, I wanted to share something that I genuinely hope is helpful ❤️
One of my biggest personal goals is to help more women travel, feel confident exploring the world, and create meaningful experiences and friendships through travel. Whether you travel with me, another company, solo, or with friends—I truly just want women to have amazing experiences and feel empowered to see more of this beautiful world.
Recently, I realized there are so many things people don’t know to ask before booking a trip. Since travel is a significant investment (of both money and time), I thought I’d put together a guide to help women make informed decisions and get the best possible experience—no matter who they travel with 💕
Here are 10 things to check when deciding on a group trip:
1. Is this a thoughtfully curated experience or a repackaged itinerary?
Ask yourself: What value is actually being added?
Is the host thoughtfully enhancing an experience with personalized planning, meaningful touches, support, trusted relationships, and a unique vision? Or are they simply repackaging a publicly available itinerary?
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with established tour companies (many are fantastic!), but it’s important to understand what you’re paying for.
If the experience is largely the same, ask yourself whether you’re paying for added value—or simply paying a premium for an itinerary and experience you could book directly from the original company yourself.
Good questions to ask:
✔️ What is being added to enhance the experience?
✔️ Is there personalized support before and during the trip?
✔️ Is the host creating additional value, access, connection, or customization?
✔️ Would this experience feel significantly different than booking it directly?
A thoughtfully curated trip should feel intentional, elevated, and genuinely different—not simply a markup on the same experience ❤️
2. Compare pricing to what’s ACTUALLY included
Don’t compare price alone—compare VALUE.
Look at:
✔️ Hotels/accommodations
✔️ Activities & entry fees
✔️ Meals
✔️ Airport transfers
✔️ Transportation
✔️ Local guides
✔️ Host support
✔️ Hidden costs
Sometimes a cheaper trip becomes more expensive once everything gets added in. Sometimes a more expensive trip includes significantly more support and inclusions.
Compare apples to apples.
3. How much support do you get BEFORE the trip? This is one many people overlook.
Will someone help with:
✔️ Flights
✔️ Visa requirements
✔️ Pre-trip documentation
✔️ Packing guidance
✔️ Questions and logistics
✔️ Travel preparation
International travel can feel overwhelming, especially if it’s outside your comfort zone. Good pre-trip support can make a huge difference in your confidence and overall experience.
4. What is communication like with the host? This is YOUR trip and a significant investment.
There shouldn’t be surprises.
Ask yourself:
✔️ Is the host responsive?
✔️ Are questions welcomed?
✔️ Are expectations and logistics clearly communicated?
✔️ Are updates shared proactively before and during the trip?
You should feel informed, supported, and prepared—not confused or left guessing.
5. Is the host creating connection—or simply telling guests what to do?
The best group trips are about so much more than logistics.
Is the host creating an environment where guests feel welcomed, safe, connected, and included? Are they helping people bond and facilitating meaningful experiences together?
Especially for women traveling solo, the feeling of connection and community can completely transform a trip ❤️
6. Is the host accessible during the trip?
Travel comes with unexpected moments—flight
delays, nerves, illness, language barriers, missed connections, confusion, or simply things not going as planned.
Ask yourself: Can I actually reach my host if I need support?
A good host should be present, engaged, and accessible—not disappear once the trip begins.
Questions to consider:
✔️ Is the host available if something goes wrong?
✔️ Are they checking in on guests and making sure everyone feels comfortable?
✔️ Are they helping troubleshoot issues or simply handing things off?
✔️ Do guests feel genuinely cared for and supported?
Especially for women traveling solo or internationally, knowing someone has your back can completely change the experience. Feeling supported, safe, and cared for matters ❤️
7. Are the tour partners trusted?
Who is actually operating your experience on the ground?
This is something many people don’t think to ask—but it matters.
Ask:
✔️ Does the host work with reputable local operators they know and trust?
✔️ Have they personally worked with them before?
✔️ Do they have strong relationships in the destination?
✔️ Who is actually responsible for your experience once you arrive?
Trusted partnerships can make a huge difference in the quality of your trip—from smoother logistics and better local insight to safer, more meaningful experiences.
And when unexpected things happen (because travel is travel 😅), strong local relationships matter even more.
A host with trusted partners is often better equipped to problem-solve, advocate for guests, and make sure things are handled thoughtfully behind the scenes.
8. Are you getting a REAL local experience—or just tourist highlights?
This one matters so much.
Ask yourself: Are you truly experiencing the destination—or simply checking boxes?
An immersive trip goes beyond crowded tourist attractions and staged experiences. It means connecting with the culture in a meaningful way.
Think:
✔️ Authentic local cuisine—not just tourist restaurants designed for visitors
✔️ Family-owned restaurants or home-style meals that tell the story of a place
✔️ Meaningful interactions with local people and communities
✔️ Supporting small businesses and the local economy
✔️ Cultural experiences and hidden gems you may not find on your own
The best trips leave you feeling like you experienced a country—not just visited it ❤️
9. What is the reputation of the host or company?
This one is HUGE.
Before investing thousands of dollars, do a little digging.
Ask:
✔️ Do they have real reviews or testimonials?
✔️ Do they have repeat guests?
✔️ Are they willing to provide referrals from past travelers?
✔️ What are people saying about the overall experience—not just the destination?
And don’t just read reviews—talk to people if you can.
If you’re in a Facebook group or travel community, ask previous guests privately about their experience.
Questions worth asking:
• Did the trip match what was promised?
• Did you feel supported by the host?
• Was communication strong?
• Would you travel with them again?
One thing I’ve learned is that many women are kind and gracious, and don’t always openly share disappointing experiences. So ask deeper questions beyond “Did you have fun?”
One of the biggest green flags?
Repeat guests. When women keep coming back trip after trip, it usually says a lot ❤️
10. Are you actually getting what was advertised?
Yes, itineraries can change—that’s travel. Weather, strikes, closures, and natural disasters happen. But key elements of a trip should be thoughtfully planned and delivered whenever reasonably possible.
If something significant changes, guests deserve transparency, communication, and a valid reason—not surprises. This is your trip and your investment. You should feel informed, respected, and confident in what you signed up for.
Bonus: Travel protection mattersTravel insurance may not always be included, but it’s worth asking if your host has trusted recommendations or partnerships to help protect your investment.
At the end of the day, my hope is simply that more women travel, feel confident doing it, and have experiences that are safe, meaningful, fun, and worth every penny 💕 Whether you travel with me or someone else, I just want you to ask good questions, know what to look for, and choose the experience that feels right for YOU.
Because the world is way too beautiful not to explore. ✈️🌍❤️ Cindy
